A Few Words About Me
My name is Donia Alalawi and when I was 20 years old sitting in my Nutrition 150 class wondering am I really going to gain anything from taking this class? But, I thought to myself, what the heck, if anything, it fulfills my last elective credit I need to graduate....
The class would satisfy my graduate goal and much, much more.
My Story
My last semester before I began the journey of entering graduate school was a time in my life that would change me forever. Our homework assignment was to find a national health issue related to nutrition.
Now, while I was in this class to enhance my own nutritional awareness, I never would’ve thought my passion for living a healthy lifestyle would lead me to discovering new friends and a life-long mission to understanding fertility.
In researching how nutrition and health impacts people’s lives, I came across an article describing how a couple in their late 30’s struggled for years trying to have a baby without any success. The family was determined to try again and again until they could conceive. Years went by without any success, and over time, the toll became so much on the couple, they eventually separated.
It broke my heart reading this article and I had tremendous empathy for this couple to share their personal experience. I truly felt for them and thought how I could only imagine the pain they had to endure; the stigma and pressure the couple experienced from people in their lives, the emotional, financial and physical turmoil they endured and then their family members who prayed so adamantly for the couple to have a baby.
Furthermore, I thought how this couple, at one time, must have been so in love with each other; happy and excited about the future that nothing could separate them and that their life long journey could stand the test of tough times. To know that their experience may have been prevented, made me angry and at the same time, a small seed of hope was planted to find out more about how to prevent this from happening again. I eventually did more research and found that nutrition, among other key factors, plays a vital role in determining a pregnancy. I finally chose the topic: Couples and infertility.
How nutrition plays a role?
What I would soon realize, however, was how infertility is not a US issue, but a global epidemic, which again, pained me even more. Once I got away from the barrage of advertisement sites for counseling and group therapy techniques for infertility, I was able to find dietary articles and publications highlighting the main causes of infertility. There are, of course, other ways of conceiving, such as In Vitro Fertilization, and while this is a common practice, I came across a few disheartening stories that families so courageously shared.
There are hundreds of reported stories online describing how fertility clinic staff were negligent and described how embryo fertility freezing tanks malfunctioned, as a result of mismanagement. In some cases, families who were waiting 20 years to have a child were told their eggs and embryos were lost. To me, this seemed incomprehensible and my heart went out for these families.
Now, I know there has and will continue to prove positive stories through In Vitro Fertilization, however, I believe the price is steep, both financially and emotionally. In all my research, I could not find the root cause for why so many couples were having difficulty getting pregnant. Even the Scholarly journals I read were unable to provide the main causes as to why healthy couples were experiencing infertility.
Sure, a healthy nutrition, exercise...etc., play a vital role, however, they're a few critical causes of infertility that I discovered in a few medical books, which is why I created this website. I eventually turned in my paper, received a decent grade, but ended the quarter with more questions than I had answers. After seeking some guidance from my professor, she could tell that there was a passion inside of me for the truth and offered to meet with me outside of class. Unable to provide me with answers, I stayed in contact with my professor who became a mentor of mine and made connections for me to seek out other like-minded naturopathic superstars; each one leading to a new way of thinking about vitality, fitness, nutrition and optimal health.
Eventually, I met a woman who has helped guide me to understanding my own health in greater ways than I ever imagined by getting to the core of a life-long journey to optimal health and who would eventually explain to me the answers I was looking for. She was open to discuss with me her own personal stories of offering families hope by empowering them to live a healthy lifestyle and to have children naturally. What was more important, she explained to me the answer to my long-awaited question. What is the main cause for couples experiencing infertility? She shared with me a family member who she helped get pregnant after decades of unsuccessful attempts. She opened my eyes to reading Detoxification and Healing: The Key to Optimal Health by Sidney Baker, M.D. I now understand why thousands of couples, who are supposedly healthy, do not get pregnant.
I truly believe that a healthy body is a fertile body and this is what I will help teach you in this website.
This website is my attempt to further my goal in sharing the knowledge I learned from medical books and other like-minded health professionals. I hope that my healing message of how to improve fertility naturally will spread quickly among couples seeking answers. I hope you would allow me to guide you in this natural healing journey.
